Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk, billed as Ring of Fire, is an upcoming heavyweight professional boxing match contested between English WBC and Lineal heavyweight champion Tyson Fury and Ukrainian WBA (Super), IBF, WBO, IBO and The Ring heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk for the undisputed heavyweight championship. The bout was scheduled to take place on 17 February 2024 at Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, however, it was postponed due to a facial injury sustained by Fury in training. The bout was rescheduled the following day, and is set to take place on 18 May 2024 at the same venue. (Wikipedia)
Background and build up
The fight will crown the first undisputed heavyweight champion since Lennox Lewis in 2000, as well as the first in the four-belt era.
In October 2023, it was rumored that Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk would take place on 23 December in Saudi Arabia. It was also reported that Anthony Joshua vs Deontay Wilder would serve as the co-feature.
On 25 October, Fury and Usyk took it to social media to announce that they had signed for a bout, with a date of 23 December being reported but not officially announced.[2] On 28 October however, after Fury fought and defeated former UFC Heavyweight Champion Francis Ngannou, he demanded that the bout with Usyk must be postponed because of injuries he sustained in the fight, despite Usyk stating that they are contracted for 23 December.[3] On 29 October, it was announced that the bout would take place in early 2024.
On 16 November, the bout was officially announced to take place on 17 February 2024 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, with a launch press conference in London.[5] The fight was officially postponed on February 2, 2024, with the idea of rescheduling for 2024 once a doctor could determine the recovery time for a cut sustained by Tyson Fury in training. Fury's promoter Queensberry Promotions confirmed the injury.[6] The whole card was rescheduled for 18th of May 2024, the decision was made quickly by the event's organizer in Saudi Arabia, Turki Alalshikh.

Size really matters: Tyson Fury says Usyk is too small to unify titles
Boxers fight for heavyweight titles in Saudi Arabia on 18 May
When cruiserweights step up, usually they get found wanting
April 11, 2024
Tyson Fury has declared it is my time, my destiny, my era and my generation before his big showdown with Oleksandr Usyk.
Fury, the WBC champion, is set to fight Ukraines WBA, IBF and WBO title-holder Usyk on 18 May in Saudi Arabia in the first undisputed world heavyweight bout of the century.
Regarding his opponent, the former unified cruiserweight champion who made his heavyweight debut in 2019, Fury told a press conference on Wednesday: Its not personal, its strictly business for both fighters. Theres a lot of stuff on the line, but I dont hate him, he dont hate me.
I respect him, as a man, as a fighter. Everyone has to respect the mans achievements. Good fighter I have a tough challenge in front of me. But Im very confident in my ability and Im very confident Ill beat the guy.
When the cruiserweights step up to the big boys, usually they get found wanting. You can beat the average big ones but you cant beat the elite big ones, because size really matters. We have weight divisions for a reason and hes going to be found wanting when he fights me on May 18. This is my time, my destiny, my era and my generation. Fact.
Fury, who called himself an encyclopaedia on boxing, referred to a number of examples of cruiserweights stepping up, including Evander Holyfield, who lost an undisputed heavyweight clash with Lennox Lewis in 1999.
This contest had originally been scheduled for 17 February, but was postponed 15 days prior to that after Fury suffered a cut above his right eye in sparring. The 35-year-old said: At first I was a little depressed, for the first day or so, but afterwards, like all things in life, I realised Gods timing is impeccable, perfect. Its not late, its not early, its bang on time. It wasnt my time to fight then, but it is going to be my time on May 18.
Im in fantastic shape. Im having a fantastic training camp and have got a good team around me, everything is going to plan. Im working very hard, Ive got my Dad [John Fury] in camp this time, so Ive got my secret weapon. Weve got a full circus camp, so cant do any more really.
He later added: I think if I didnt train at all for this camp, I just came in at like 25 stone, and sank maybe 15 pints of Peroni beforehand, and the next day got in there, what is he [Usyk] going to do jab me around? Take nothing away, but he couldnt do anything with Derek Chisora (who Usyk beat in a heavyweight fight in 2020). It was a 50-50 fight.
Since beating Chisora, Usyk has recorded unanimous and split-decision victories against Anthony Joshua and a ninth-round knockout against Daniel Dubois.
Wednesdays press conference at the Mazuma Mobile Stadium in Morecambe, near where Fury lives, saw his father, trainer SugarHill Steward, promoter Frank Warren and manager Spencer Brown all predict a knockout victory for the Briton over his fellow unbeaten fighter Usyk. Fury himself then joked: Im going to go for Usyk to knock me out in the first round Im going to go for it, why not?
Fury (34-0-1, 24 KOs) first became world champion with victory over Usyks compatriot Wladimir Klitschko in 2015. He added: I said if I cant beat old Wlad, I must be useless, and Ill say it again if I cant beat Usyk, Im no good clearly. Thats your headline. If Tyson Fury cant beat Usyk, Tysons no good, end of. But if I beat him, I beat another man, great, fantastic on to the next one.

Combat Sports News - Nate Diaz explains how Jake Paul trash talking Conor McGregor and Dee Devlin helped influence him into accepting the fight - 21st July 2023
Diaz (21-13 MMA) will be making his boxing debut against The Problem Child who has a 6-1 record in the ring, 4 of those wins via knockout.
Nate Diaz opened up about why he agreed to take the fight with Paul when speaking on the Raw Talk podcast:
This guy (Paul) actually thinks hell beat up everyones ass and hes louder than all you fools who are really beating peoples ass. So, now I have to step the f**k out the box real quick and whup this motherf**kers ass so everyone knows whos the real ass-whupper. You understand what Im saying?
Continuing the 38 year old shared:
This fool was poppin off on everybody. Like, Oh, were real fighters. Well prove it, motherf**ker. Go beat his ass for talking sh*t. He was going after everybody. On that big of a stage where hes making everybody believe that, like youre letting this guy talk sh*t to the whole roster? And aint no one saying sh*t? Louder than the roster? The UFCs big, but the roster?
Addressing what Jake Paul was saying about Conor McGregor, Nate Diaz continued:
And then he was talking sh*t to Conor, talking sh*t to Conor and dissing his wife and sh*t? Some real disrespectful stuff that he shouldnt have been saying. And nobodys saying sh*t. Im the one who said Shut the f*ck up, b**ch. Ill whup your ass. Have some respect. Youre gonna disrespect somebodys wife and stuff like that who would actually whup your ass? To get a fight like that, that suppresses the fight fight game.
Concluding, Nate Diaz said (h/t MMAMania):
Like, thats a real fight and you should shut the f*ck up, and no ones saying anything because everyones acting like the whole roster, the UFC, everyones acting like He cant really. But he should shut the f*ck up. And no ones speaking up, saying Shut the f*ck up. So shut the f*ck up.
With the fight just 2 weeks away, its anyones guess as to who will be the victor after 10 rounds in the boxing ring.
Jake Paul names himself as one of boxing's top three PPV attractions - April 2023
As he prepares to fight Nate Diaz in August, Jake Paul has spoken about the boxing Pay-Per-View (PPV) market and how much it has changed over the past decade.
Pointing to piracy, the YouTuber and boxer has explained that it is so much harder now to get people to pay for a fight legally.
n his view, only a handful of fighters encourage people to fork over cash and he believes that he is one of the top attractions worldwide in this sense, along with Tyson Fury and Canelo Alvarez.
"Selling PPV is really hard," a tweet from Paul started.
"Less than 10 fighters in the world can truly move six figures on their own consistently.
"Piracy is rampant, competition for eyeballs non-stop.
"Doing a million buys today is like doing two million buys 10 years ago."
He then went on to outline who the "current PPV movers no matter the opponent" are, with his criteria being three or more PPV fights with more than 200,000 buys in each.
On the worldwide level, he named Tyson Fury, Canelo Alvarez and himself, before naming Gervonta Davis, Errol Spence Jr and Deontay Wilder as top players in the PPV market for the USA. Similarly, he named Anthony Joshua for the UK.
BKFC president David Feldman hits out at piracy
Jake Paul's tweet was in response to an article about BKFC president David Feldman, who spoke about the reasons why BKFC 41 didn't do as well as expected.
"We anticipated to do more pay-per-views than we did," Feldman said to Unlocking the Cage.
"We still did good. We did six-figures in pay-per-views, a little north of six figures, which was very, very good for us.
"We'd projected to do almost double that, though.
"Actually I just got a report in that says they found 734,000 illegal streams from that event.
"So I'm not even pissed off. That's 734,000 people that watched this event, on top of the people that bought it.
"We had north of one million people in the United States watch this event live. That's unbelievable for us."

Tyson has made history numerous times in Atlantic City at Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall, holding victories over Tyrell Biggs, Larry Holmes, Michael Spinks, Carl Williams and Alex Stewart at the iconic venue. Now, 25 years after first stepping foot in Boardwalk Hall, Tysons latest appearance leaves potential for another history-making moment.
We love having Mike Tyson on our shows and now fans will get a chance to see a different side of Mike in AEW as he steps into our commentary booth for the first time alongside the incredible team of Jim Ross, Excalibur and Tony Schiavone, said Tony Khan, CEO, GM and Head of Creative of AEW. Chris Jericho Reportedly Had Strong Words for CM Punk After AEW All Out Fight - October 28th, 2022
ROH World Champion Chris Jericho reportedly had choice words for CM Punk following the backstage incident at AEW All Out last month.
A new report from Fightful Select notes that Jericho approached Punk following the brawl, unhappy with how things went, and the nature of the post-show media scrum. Jericho reportedly told Punk that he was a cancer to the locker room, and a detriment to AEW, according to multiple sources including some close to Punk.
It was noted that Punk essentially told Jericho it wasnt his business, and he needed to leave.
Shortly after the Jericho Punk confrontation, Jericho joined AEW President Tony Khan at the media scrum. He also held lead the talent meeting in the days that followed, and was recently signed to a significant contract extension that saw him take on additional responsibilities.
Jericho was heavily lauded by AEW sources for his resolve and demeanor in stepping up during the media scrum right after the incident went down.
It was recently reported that former AEW Producer Ace Steel was let go from the company due to his role in the brawl, while Punk remains suspended amid rumors of a contract buy-out. You can click here for new details on the incident from Punks camp. AEW Executive Vice Presidents Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks have been suspended, but were all backstage at AEW Dynamite this week. AEW confirmed their upcoming returns with a vignette that aired, seen here.
Its believed that Punk will not return to AEW. He and Jericho did commentary together on AEW Rampage, but never got the chance to rekindle their rivalry from WWE in the AEW ring.

'They should move to any other night, get away from us' - Chris Jericho slams WWE with a bold statement - 4th September 2020
"They lost! There's nothing wrong with conceiting defeat and moving to a different night." Chris Jericho had a lot more to say.
There are rumors about WWE possibly moving NXT to a different night.
AEW Dynamite and NXT have aired on different days for the past few weeks. As expected, the results have been quite positive for both companies. Both shows have drawn huge numbers without any competition, and there is also talk about NXT possibly moving out from the Wednesday slot. Chris Jericho, who has always been on the offensive when it comes to AEW's ratings victories over WWE, has sent another bold message to the WWE.
During a recent appearance on the Busted Open radio show, the Demo God addressed the rumors of WWE contemplating a change of day for NXT.
Chris Jericho said that he wasn't surprised that the WWE was planning on retreating from the Wednesday Night Wars. The AEW Superstar sent a direct message to his former employers that they should move to another night. Chris Jericho felt that WWE had a great program, and their spiteful tactic of going up against AEW was only hurting NXT's ratings.
Chris Jericho says WWE should just conceit defeat
Chris Jericho declared that AEW isn't going anywhere and that Dynamite would continue to beat NXT. Jericho felt that WWE retreating is the right move from a business standpoint. 'Le Champion' isn't bothered about NXT breaching the 800k or 900k barriers as he and AEW are focussed on getting over the 1 million mark. He also spoke about the importance of the 18-49 demographic.
Chris Jericho said that the WWE lost, and there is nothing wrong for them to conceit defeat. The former AEW World Champion concluded by proclaiming that no one can stop All Elite Wrestling.
Here's Chris Jericho's full statement on the rumors of WWE moving to another night and the ongoing ratings war:
"Once again, it was never a war for me. This is a war that was thrust upon us by a company that is very petty and very spiteful, and we know the reason why NXT was moved to Wednesday nights. To mess with us. We get it. We pay attention to what we are doing. We don't care what they're doing, and we have no interest in it. If you watch us, you get the ratings, where we beat them week after week. We beat them in the demos where people think it's jokes. The only thing that matters is the TV networks and advertisers that listed the 18-49 demo. Look it up. We win every week. They should retreat. They should move to any other night. Get away from us! You guys got a great program, and it's good; why would you want to sacrifice your own ratings just to be spiteful and petty to go head to head with AEW? We're not going anywhere and put on anything you want - we'll continue to beat you. It is a retreat, but it's also the right move from a business standpoint. Get your head out of your rear end and just worry about your product the same way we worry about ours. If they move to Tuesday, smart move. That way, you guys can get your 850 thousand, 900 thousand. Whatever! Get 10 million viewers. Congratulations! Let us do our thing, and we'll get over a million. I think it's a smart move business-wise on theirs. They lost! There's nothing wrong with conceiting defeat, moving to a different night, and worrying about your show and not worrying about going head to head with AEW because you can't stop us." H/t WrestlingInc
While Chris Jericho is just doing his job of putting over AEW, many fans would argue that both shows airing on different nights would be the right decision as they can watch both shows. The ratings and viewership figures from the past few weeks have proven that putting out shows on separate days could be ideal for moving forward.
Also, don't forget to check out the latest interview from Sportskeeda in which our very own Gary Cassidy caught up with Chris Jericho. The legendary star discussed a plethora of topics, including the possibility of Brock Lesnar coming to AEW, the origins of his nickname, Jon Moxley, Orange Cassidy, and much more.
