Should I size up or down for wrestling shoes? ›

It's important to remember brand-size recommendations when buying wrestling shoes. For example, ASICS and adidas recommend trying on a shoe one-half size larger than your street shoe while Nike recommends going a full size larger.

Next, you need to determine your budget. Most wrestling shoes range from $40 to well over $100. If you're not sure whether your son or daughter will stay in the sport long enough to get full value from the shoes, it's best to go with the lower cost shoe (especially if the wrestler is a rookie).

Should I Wear Socks With Wrestling Shoes? In short, yes. A good pair of athletic socks will provide an additional layer of cushion for your foot and help to stabilize the fit inside your shoes.

Sole Design and Traction

It is a time-honored tradition for a wrestler to leave their shoes in the center of the mat after their last competitive match. It symbolizes their retirement from the sport.

You're not required to wear anything beneath your singlet, but most wrestlers choose to wear briefs or compression shorts. Boxers are not recommended, the looser fit causes the fabric to bunch up uncomfortably under the tight fitting singlet.

There is a rule in wrestling that you have to either tuck or tape your laces to prevent unnecessary stoppages to tie your shoes.

Most wrestlers wear their wrestling shoes at practice, but sometimes we have new kids who didn't have wrestling shoes yet, or someone who forgot their shoes, can wear socks on the wrestling mat.

Is wrestling a cheap sport? ›

Wrestling is a very affordable sport for athletes. The registration fees are reasonable and there is no need to purchase expensive specialized sporting equipment.

Your wrestling shoe should fit very snugly and feel tight all around every part of your foot. You are not looking for breathing space or wiggle room. A simple test to try is to place your fingers between the shoe and ankle. If they fit, you may want to consider a smaller size.

While some wrestling shoes may be machine washable, it's generally recommended to hand wash them to preserve their integrity and longevity. If you decide to machine wash, use a gentle cycle with cold water and let them air dry. Always check the manufacturer's care instructions before washing.

To be a successful wrestler, size of the athlete does not matter. How intense are the practices? Wrestling practice is one of the most challenging of all sports workouts.

There should be just enough space for your finger to fit nice and snugly. If your finger slides in easily with space to spare, you should probably go down a half size, while if it's a tight squeeze, go up half a size.

Sizing. In general, men's boxing shoes are sized similarly to regular gym shoes, although they tend to feel slightly smaller because they are made narrower than running or gym shoes and sometimes ordering half a size up work for correct sizing.

With this in mind, your running shoe should be around a half size larger than the shoe size you usually get. Making sure there is enough space in the toe box of your shoe can give you the room you need for those long runs without any unnecessary discomfort.
